Li Zhaoxing Holds Talks with Federal Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister of Germany

On July 15, 2004, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held talks with visiting Federal Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany Joschka Fischer. Li Zhaoxing said that currently relations between China and Germany are maintaining good development momentum in all areas. In May this year, with the successful visit to Germany by Premier Wen Jiabao, which scored a lot of achievements, bilateral relations between the two countries was brought to a new stage. China stands ready to work together with Germany to carry out in earnest the consensuses reached by leaders of the two countries during the visit by Premier Wen Jiabao by having closer political consultation, boosting their bilateral economic, trade and technological cooperation and addressing properly concerns of each other, so as to push relations between the two countries towards a higher level. Fischer said that the comprehensive cooperative relations between Germany and China are developing smoothly. The visit to Germany by Premier Wen Jiabao promoted the further development of the relations between the two countries. Germany admires and has been following the development of China, appreciates the active role of China in international affairs and would like to enhance exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in all fields, among other things, economy, trade and culture. Fischer reiterated that the government of Germany firmly pursues the one-China policy, for which Li Zhaoxing expressed his appreciation. The two sides also exchanged views on the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and issues related to Iraq, Afghanistan and the reforms of the United Nations. Following the talks, the two foreign ministers jointly met with the media.
